Bones for Life ~ Applied Feldenkrais
Dealing with gravity and forces of movement holds the dynamism for health if you move as nature intended. However modern life (computers, mechanical transport, sedentary existence, accident and emotional distress) have shaped many a being in a way that is not so healthy.
Bones for Life was in the first instance designed to combat osteoporosis and it is very original in its approach. It is the rhythmical pulsations of lively steps that enable the blood, which carries nutrients and oxygen, to penetrate the solid tissue of the bones and provide for growth of new bone cells giving healthy Bone.
In life provocation is often needed to stimulate an answer. African Water Carrier women have perfectly aligned posture because of the provocation of carrying weights on there heads. These women are nearly one hundred times less liable to bone fracture than people of the west. Part of Bones for Life program takes you step by step to walk as an African Water Carrier.

A well-aligned posture and harmonious coordination of movement are essential for sustaining the springy pressure of dynamic walking and movement which can stimulate bone strength without the individual suffering injury.
But that’s really only the beginning of the story. Bones for Life is very thorough in its approach to your well being, the side effects are so good that really the aid to osteoporosis becomes a part of a list of great benefits.
For a minute think of your body as your vehicle, try to make analogy from the vehicle to some of the things that happen to people, there bodies, minds and senses. If the chassis on your car is twisted the tyres will wear unevenly and become unsafe, (feet, knees, hips) you will always have to make allowance because it won’t steer straight which may be dangerous to others, (communication) the window glass may crack, (vision) and you will use more fuel than if the car was straight. To drive it you will not be able to sit squarely and so the car will shape you (like your body shaping your thoughts) the doors will not open and close properly, (jaw, sphincters) the paint may crack, joints will wear before their time, and there will be excessive vibration and noise. You would not be comfortable driving it swiftly, might worry about its reliability and negotiating bends in the road maybe a nerve racking experience (balance and falls). Bumps in the road will work to damage it further as it will not perform as the manufacturer intended.
Doing the Bones for Life Program improves coordination of one body part to another, allowing your nervous system to calibrate and reorganise your skeleton. Bones for Life is applied Feldenkrais, which is a method of neural exploration through movement which takes you to an ever evolving repertoire of possibility where life is easy and easy is right.
The program uses primal patterns of locomotion to help you find unused options of moving and thinking, patterns which have been tested by nature over millions of years, left to diminish in many of us as we sit in chairs, at computers and ride in motor cars removing provocation for movement that nature meant and replacing it with degenerative patterns that suit static pursuit, which the human was not designed for. Still, even the healthiest people benefit from the Bones for Life Program for within us all is room for improvement.
It is all very safe, gradual and fun to learn at your own pace. Benefit is gained young or old. Wisdom would say the world would be a healthier place if we learned this earlier in life, but then, when is early? Once you get the idea each step you take conspires to your good health.
Bones for Life ~ Because there is no pill for posture.

A message from the UK Director
Hello and welcome to the Bones for Life UK Site. My name is Adam Ward, Trainer and director of Bones for Life UK;
I am a friend, student, graduate and business partner of Ruthy Alon the Bones for Life Creator. I first met Ruthy many years ago on a Feldenkrais Master Class in Italy. I attended these classes for several years and something that really stood out was how many people raved about another of Ruthy’s courses they had attended, called Bones for Life. I asked Ruthy about this course and after some discussion she agreed to come and train me, provided I could find other people to attend, in England. This was our beginning. I was most impressed with the work. Ruthy is a wonderful person, a master of movement, a testimony to her own work as you will see if you are lucky enough to meet her and has created something quite amazing here. The pinnacle of a life times work and still she is improving and building on it. Each time I teach, each time I practice the Bones Work it grows for me which is quite thrilling. The last course I finished teaching I ended up walking in the countryside in the dark to get somewhere and got the most amazing experience of a cat like stealth. I am so proud to be a trainer in the Bones for Life and have an enthusiasm for the work to match.
